Emergence of the Mist after the Storm (2015)

Suddenly, time shifted, and all became uncertain, or so it seemed. As the mist gradually lifted, there emerged a self-aware community of solitudes.
This photographic project, created in 2015, forms part of the broader initiative Aux alentours, les Âmes errantes (In the Vicinity, the Wandering Souls). It comprises thirty portraits captured from a low angle in a commercial studio equipped with a white cyclorama, smoke effects, and powerful lighting. The images were subsequently integrated into a virtual reality experience, where the viewer, through a Kinect interface, could interact with them. The faces emerged from a digital mist in response to the viewer’s movements, allowing them to be summoned… or dismissed. Awarded the Expérience Interactive grant by Pictanovo in 2013, this project explores the shifting boundary between presence and erasure, proximity and distance, reality and illusion.
