Circle of Friends, donation La pluie d'oiseaux (2007-2008)

In 2007–2008, I created Circle of Friends, a photographic series based on a simple protocol: the first person I photographed would invite another, and so on, gradually widening a circle of faces I knew only through their predecessor. Inspired by the theory of six degrees of separation, this process sought to make visible the invisible network that connects us all, and to affirm the importance of nurturing it. This logic of connection and solidarity found an echo in La Donation La Pluie d’Oiseaux, in which I took part: a collective of eighty-six artists offering their works to build a cultural bridge between Roubaix and Sulaimany, in Iraqi Kurdistan. Presented at La Piscine in 2008 before joining the Crossing Museum, this donation shared with Circle of Friends the same conviction: that art can reveal and strengthen the human chains that bind us.
