Clay (2003)
Location
Lille-Fives
Working with clay activates a process of mental projection in me. The material is placed under tension and pushed to a tipping point, where form begins to break down and is then taken up again. Clay keeps the object in a state of becoming, between the formless and form, without ever reaching a definitive figure. The skull of a plastic skeleton found at a flea market is overmodelled: its foundations are preserved, but displaced and made visible. The sculpture externalises a psychic state (tension, persistence, imbalance) and gives material form to a mental structure suspended between support and collapse.
