Christophe Cellier "unconditional past" 2012
Through the diversity of female images that move through my mind, I construct an indirect portrait of myself. Coming from different cultures and horizons, they embody alternative inner worlds rather than distinct individuals. Each carries its own promise of happiness or of unease, coherent in itself yet incompatible with the others. This work does not aim to reconstruct a biography or to identify a central figure, but to make visible lives that could have unfolded in another time, before circumstances altered their course. Unconditional past
does not suggest a lack to be resolved, but a lucid awareness of non-cumulative forms of happiness or of unease, preserved as unrealised possibilities.
